My friend has a 96 civic DX that when he starts up in the morning it whines loudly. Once it warms a bit the whining stops, but once he turns on the A\C , it starts whining again even louder than when he started it.

I checked the A\C belt, and it seems really tight. I didn't have a straight edge(or anything to use in its place at the time) to measure the belt deflection.

Could the A\C belt being too tight be the cause of this whining?
