Default 16" tire question

is a 205/45/16 too large for a civic? or is a 205/40/16 more preferable?

calculate it dude

205 is the tread width 45 is tire wall's percentage in respect to the treadwidth. once you find that number divide by 25.4 to put it in inches. multiply the sidewall by two and add the diameter of the rim (to get total diamter) multiply by pi and you get your total circumference

do that for your stock wheels and the ones you are looking at. 40 is small 45 is slightly larger in this case

My personal preference, I would go for the 45 series. 40 is too low profile and can hurt when it comes to potholes for your rims.

I have 40 series tires now but I think that since I need new tires for my 16's, I'm gonna try out a set of 45 series...

185/65x14", 195/55x15" are stock sizes for most Civics. So the next size would be 205/45x16" to keep your speedo accurate. You could go with 205/40x16" but potholes would suck, the ride sucks, and your speedo will be off.

Just to show with my stockers on at 80mph my rpms are 4000rpms. With my 215/40x16" on at the same speed my rpms are at 4500rpms which is a bit LOUD! :0

on tires.com it said my stock is 175/65/14..? i think the car says that too either way if its 185/65/14 THEN go for 45 series. i swear my sticker in the car says its 175/65/14

go for 45 less selection though i believe
