h22 and weight?
i hear all this talk about an h22 swap not being good cuz it makes the car lose its handling. my question is just how much handling would i lose if i put it in a 96-00 coupe. is this like a jurassic change or whats the deal?
They say the H22 adds about 160lbs to the front of your vehicle. Add or take 20lbs. They also say custom springs are needed. I would say coilover suspension with custom stiffer spring rates could possibly bring the front of the Civic back to order even with a heavier motor in the front.
Its not a good idea all around
Your going to run into some clearance issues with regard to your rad among other things and there will be alot of little extras along the way that will add up. The weight issue is actually a myth. It will add some weight to your front end, however by leaving out the A/C your only looking at about 100lbs give or take a few. How much do you weigh??
You will definately need good suspension in the front for this swap and you might run into varios tuning issues when complete. Also you will run into a bigger problem with the axles. You will have to make the axles necessary for this engine out of B18C parts blah blah blah......not good.
You will not lose your handling!!!!
However>>>
All in all I say an unwise choice when you weigh the pros/cons
In all honesty...your talking about spending, by the end of the project, just as much as you would have spent on a nice B18C with some mods pushing (roughly 190chp) or a B18C type R (210 chp) even

Just as much HP sauce with less headache. Trust me!!!

You could get better results out of a B20/VTEC, stroked with the aid of a deck plate, and overbored a couple extra millimeters. That's about as impractical as the H22A swap though.
mmm... deck plate
you can make an H22 civic handle just fine for daily driving, and *medium* spirited driving... just don't expect it ho handle as well as a B-series civic. I think, considering the problems associated with the swap I would just avoid it... A B20 can make the same torque as an H22 if built properly. Even stock, its not that far off.
