Default Tranny question

My friend that has a 96 HX manual recently got her tranny and her alternator replaced. She's not very car savvy, but she does know that her car shouldn't be running at 4k @ 80mph. She told the mechanic that worked on the car about the situation and he said that this is normal.

My question is, what would cause this? My best guess was that even though she got a civic tranny, she got one that wasn't meant for her car (for the HX trim model anyways). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

4k rpm @ 80 mph seems pretty normal to me, it doesn't seem that high. Usually for my ef civic si, it's around 3500 rpm.

Yeah...that might be a good thing...maybe they gave her an Si or EX tranny. But, you know, if she doesn't want it...I'll trade her for my DX...:naughty:

Well she said that the car would normally run around 3500 @ 80mph. Plus the car is using up a lot more gas than normal. Anybody else have any ideas?

It could probably be another tranny. Tranny problems wouldn't cause this.
