You can use DOT 5 as long as you fully flush the system of DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid. In order to do that, you have to fill your system with DOT 5 fluid, flush it and fill it again. Warning, do NOT mix DOT 5 with any other fluid.

Becareful when getting rare brake fluids. If you ever need to change out your fluid finding the stuff again can be fun (from my experience).

I use Valvoline SynPower which is readily available. Not the best boiling points but better than stock. If you have the money Motul is supposed to be the best. ATB Super Blue is hard to find sometimes.

Super blue isn't hard to find for me, I can find it at my local Bmw salvage yard, kind of expensive for brake fluid but

use motul, my si has motul in it and i haven't boiled over the brakes since. those 130 mph freeway speeds boil the stock fluid fast.

That's why I said "technically". I think the drawbacks far outweigh any benefits you might get from using DOT 5. But that's just my opinion.

Looks like ATE or valvoline is a pretty good value, but it might not be up to my demands :dunno: Know where I can get some of those fluids?
No prob! And for the ATE or Valvoline stuff, your best bet will probably be online or at any local race shops nearby. There will be other sources but it might take some looking and calling around. The Valvoline stuff does seem more readily available though.

I agree that it's a good time to do it.
