Default What am I supposed to feel from my vtec

I have a 96 ex coupe, it has a y8 motor in it. It is only an automatic by the way. I know vtec engages around 5k, but what does it do exactly? How do you know when it is kicking in? What type of sound does it make? I'm sure it works fine and I'm just oblivious to it because I don't think about it.

i have never "felt" vtec in a sohc 4cyl before. i used to drive a f22 accord and have driven a d16y8 auto, and i could never "feel" vtec. but in my b16 hatch, i can def. hear/ feel a diff @ 5500, as the intake sucks louder and the rpm's rise faster

Never have felt VTEC. Might as well have bought an LX and put an aftermarket manifold on.

I notice mine, just watch your guage and you will just see it rev quicker. It's not anywhere near the same 'kick' as DOHC VTEC models.

I've never noticed mine either. I have the stock d16z6. Oh well. Not that big of a deal for me.
