Default moon roof installed?

Hey I got a 01 civic LX. I want to install a moon roof where there is none. I had no idea people did this but my friend says its pretty common. Anyway , can anyone tell me where i would go, how much is average, is this a dumb thing to do, do they leak, etc.?
thanks

I've heard of a couple folks doing this and heard they leak but I'm sure if you know what you're doing and seal everything up good like it's suppose to be it won't. Good luck if u try it, and make sure to post before and after pics too.

Well, it really depends on the installer and the quality of your new roof. Do you want a pop up or a motorized one? I had a pop up put into my chevy back in 93 and it worked out just fine for 5-6 yrs, then i had just a little bit of water come in. Then I traded it in for my Honda.

Keep in mind that an after market sun/ moon roof is designed to keep water out with the seal. There is no back up for leaks. An OEM sun/moon roof does have the seal, but is designed to draw any water away that does get past the seal. So with an after market you have to keep the seal in very good condition and maintain it well. I would say do it only if you can find someone very reputable and carries a great quality product. You don't want to go cheap cause that is what you'll get and have some water problems down the line.

With all said, a moon-roof is something you want to do right... otherwise, you'll have a lot of problems-- leaking, structure, etc

Aftermarket moonroofs suck. Mine leaks, makes a shitload of wind noise and is just an overall POS. I would HIGHLY reccomend not getting one. IMO, if it didn't come from the showroom floor, forget it. I'm actually planning on having mine removed and a new roof welded in.

:edit: I can feel how the car flexes a little more compared to other hatches I've driven too.

I've had both. Aftermarket in my old DX coupe.. and in this car an OEM. No problems with either. :dunno:
