Default Best place to buy a rebuilt long block

My friend is looking at a 92 hatch for his daughters first car but then engine is shot but the body and interior are in perfect condition. I will give him the 1.6L SOHC VTEC I have but he wants it rebuilt completely and we cannot seem to find anyone to rebuild a D16Z6 to stock specs. Any online places you guys can recommend or any place in Texas. Thanks. He wants to know the engine will never leave her stranded that is why he is choosing a full rebuild rather than freshening up my long block.

Um, it will cost about $400 to do it yourself provided it doesn't need any machining. You might be able to buy a low-mile engine from someone else with a transmission for that much.

A full rebuild usually requires bearings, rings, an engine seal kit +oil pan gasket, cam seals and an oil pump seal kit, water pump, timing belt, tensioner + pulley, clutch and a lot of odds & ends to make it run again like fluids, cap & rotor, plugs, wires filters, etc... and the stock exhaust won't fit that engine If you want to pay someone else, you could certainly afford a better engine for an EG hatch because professional labor ain't cheap.

That's awfully nice of your friend to do this for his daughter, though. Not all parents dole out swapped civics for their kids. That's pretty cool.

if he wants a rebuild and cant do it himself, he's just gonna have to find a good shop to do it.

otherwise id say find a low mileage engine.

or a rebuild kit and a buddy to do the work for him.

Yeah, but he knows how rebuilt engines can supposedly have 30k on them and really have 70k on them. She will be driving 30 miles each way to and from college the year after next and he wants it to last intil she graduates college and then he will buy her whatever she wants.

That looks good, but he just leaves it open like that? I'd personally have that thermostat housing crack welded.

If he got that, what would be the best way to clean it out? Would the 195k head I have on my D16Z6 need rebuilding? If so, what is entailed in a head rebuild. I was going to rebuild the D16Z6 and go SOHC turbo but he needs it more than me and I'm fixing to buy a new car so my wife kinda put me in check as far as money spending goes.

Wipe the walls clean, then I'd take one of those foam paint brushes and dip it in motor oil to lubricate the cylinder walls.

I've never rebuilt a head (yet) so I'm not entitled to give any advice on that.
