MY SISTER'S CIVIC IS STRANDED!!! Any ideas?
MY sister drove to Syracuse, NY this weekend in her 1994 Honda Civic 4dr DX. Tonite, while she was cruisin around, her car started to make noise...she explained when she called me:
"Well, when I sit at a stoplight, my car makes a grinding noise. But when I start to go, the grinding noise goes away. And when I sit at a stop, and I rev my engine, it goes away too."
She's pretty un-educated about cars...but as well educated as I am, I just can't seem to find out wtf is the matter! That's all she has explained to me. Any ideas what could be the matter? If no ideas, then I have to go get her in NY tomorrow! What a waste of gas...

sounds like something is only being vibrated when the car is at an idle...like a loose sheild or exhaust or something...
kinda like my muffler only rubs the bumper and vibrates when my car idles low (like when my stereo pulls the idle down...yeah i know)

grinding? sounds like something in the tranny... i had a similar problem when i first bought my car.... most of my diff bearings and others were all mucked up causing my clutch to soak itself in oil.. it lasted through 3k rpms 1st gear though then stopped...

something might be wrong w/ the cars idle. maybe not getting enuff rpms.. u should ask her if the rpm's are unusually low.
the only shaking i experience is when my car is about 2 stall.
