Default b18c 4 speed?

ok so im talking to my roommate today and he said he rode in an older hatch, im assuming 4th gen but he said he looked under the hood and everything and it was a dual cam vtec engine and the kid said it was a 1.8 liter. So I assumed it was a gsr swap. The odd thing is, he said it pulled really poorly and only had a 4 speed transmission, yes manual. I wasnt even aware of a 4 speed that would bolt onto that engine...

What am I missing here?

Could be stroked/bored :dunno: Also, I don't know of any honda ones, but I know there are a couple Saab (and probably many more) aftermarket racing transmissions that have 4 gears instead of five.
