Default Decisions New Car

I'm Getting my setelment check for an auto accident from about a year ago. I'm Taken 10k and geteing a newer car to me. I want to get a honda for my car. I have Thoght of 3 options, 96-00 Civic EX(get it cheap trough some rims and a few mods, decent power decent gas mpg, Civic SI 99-00 (good starting platform (engine)get one for about 9k around here, and through some long tearm mods into it, Or a 96+GSR, But I'm iffey on that because my Freind has one and he dosen't get that good of gas miliage. What I need is a car thats going to last me fairly long, Get good gas miliage, and best bang for my buck. Sigh Decisions I;m Ver Open Minded to ideas, but i do want the new body style of the civic.

i like the 99-00 si's. and the gsr's are nice too. what kind of mileage does your freind get? they should get fairly decent gas mileage. no less than the si's i believe.

I'd look at gs-r's just because you have more to work with in terms of availability (more years) You could get a slightly older one and have more money left over for goodies/insurance/whatever. If you get a good deal on an Si, thats a pretty good option. I'd prefer either of those over an EX, mainly because it takes a fair amount of money to get an EX up to snuff with a gsr or Si. Plus just about every civic I see here is an EX...

I don't really need to go all that fast, just moderet to get me to and from school and to work. I'm not looking for a race car. Need something good on Gas as well, Sure there all 4 cyl but every little bit counts. Insurens on the EX would be cheaper too. I need a relighable Daily driver. My truck will be my new toy (Going to drop a 302 or a 350 in it probly 350, Yess a chevy motor in a Ranger, Ever work on a Ford no thanks.)

I would say go with the SI. If you get a GSR your insurance will go up drastically. That's one of the reasons why I went with the SI. If you can get a good deal on an SI go for it.

it seems like you're leaning toward the EX because u don't care about speed, that's what i told myself when i bought my car. but have you ever driven a stock civic EX? they're slow as hell.. it's almost depressing how you can look at all the cars next to you on the road and realize that you're in the slowest one. if you have the money to get an Si or GSR, get it! i'd personally take a GSR over an Si because of looks as well as speed.

I have drove a Civic EX and a Integra GSR, Ya the GSR is much faster, But the kid that owns the GSR also pays out the ass in Insurance and his tickets. (got one hour after he bought it for his licsens plate lol) Drove the EX it got up and Went the way I wanted it to but like you said you look to the left and there goes that kid in the GSR I think the SI meets them both in the middle and like NoRiCeHeRe said Insurance is a lot cheaper. I'll have to test drive them both any things faster them my truck hehe I lean towards the Civic just because now more people put them down and I see other wise.

GS-R > Si > EX

If I had the choice of the three, I would get the GS-R without even thinking about it. Granted I wouldn't buy any GS-R newer then '95, but it still blows the other two away in looks, comfort, and performance. Your friend's gas milage is unusually low too, it should be around 25 city/ 31 highway.
