A mild steel is what's underneath the chrome plating in most cases.... it's less prone to cracking.

Stainless Steel is the way to go i would say, chrome will change colors on you in no time. Ceramic have a record of cracking and it's hard to install cause it's a one piece.

Lildragon , was it ez to take out your stock airbox? How long did it take? Any special tools?

It's not too difficult. You're gonna have to jack up the car, take off the right wheel, remove the splash guard and take the wheel well apart to get the complete airbox out of there. A couple of screws but thats about it.

so do you prefer ceremic or ss? isn't ceremic better in heat resistance only ss last longer?

what is a good brand? is ractive any good? do all after market work the same?

I prefer stainless steal over ceramic because i was worried about it cracking too soon. Yes ceremic is more heat resistant but if you're really concerned you can find heat shield wrap to put around a stainless steal header. Most headers are all the same, some good brands are hp racing and dc sport. I'm not sure about ractive.

Always wondered this... how come no one puts the stock heat sheild back on?

Won't fit... or just... don't wanna?
