Default Car getting painted

I have a dilemma, should I stick with my factory black or go with something different? I was thinking most likely black because It would match the rest of the frame, but it's black and not really maroon or any odd colors, so it's not like it won't match.

My drivers side is faded, almost grey from UV rays over it's 9 year lifespan, so even if I go to Maaco, which I probably will, it's going to look better than it is now.

The lowest other places will do it around here (Family owned body shops) is about $1200, and that's just a paint job, Maaco will get out 3 dings I have, and paint it for $400. Suggestions?

The reason Maaco is so cheap is because they'll rush it in, and rush it out. As long as you don't mind them doing rush job on it then who cares. If you want a quality job, you'll have to do it yourself or spend some $$$. You get what you pay for.

So if they suck at masking, I'll just do black again, just so masking won't be a problem with an all black car.

you're forgetting one major thing bud. PREPARATION IS 95% OF THE PAINT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dude, it makes no difference how well they mask it or how long they take to spray it. if you dont sand right and dont apply the right materials, how the fawk is the paint supposed to stay? it stayed for 9 years already because back at the factory, everything was new and was ready to be painted. now, its already painted, and if you or they dont do the correct preparation (and Maaco will not), the paint job will look like s h i t after 6 months. here's my suggestion. go to the book store. buy a book on painting cars (probably $20). learn how to do the prep yourself. it sounds like you want a good job, you just dont have the money for it. do the prep work yourself, then let Maaco spray it. also, it may cost you a bit more, but personaly, id go buy my own paint from a distributor like PPG or something, and have them use that. that enamel crap they use looks like fawkin s h i t!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, uh, good point, I called up Maaco, they want me to bring the car down to give an estimate on the body work, and there's a offer for a Paint job for $500 which comes with a 4 year warranty, good enough for me. And body work will probably be about $100 extra, so Grand total probably $600. 4 year warranty is great, and I will definately use a car cover for the first 2 months and wash after every rainfall. And after that 2 months, wax it up.

Unless you want to spend more money for the door jams and under the hood??? Just get the same color.

My friends H/B got repainted by them and he paid an extra $100 to get the door jams and under the hood done. under the hood changed colors from silver to teal (teal was original color) they did a horrible job on the door jams also.

My car has a cheapo paint job (previous owner paid for it) it doesnt look bad but its going on about 1.5years and its chipping in some places. my bumpers had chips all over it but i luckly got rear ended and got those repainted. My paint isnt that glossy also, i think it needs a good wet sand and buffing though
