I guess that's what happens when a car comes without a tach...

My 92-95 dx motor is 6800RPMs, but that doesn't help you at all.

I guess you got a new cluster?

On my civic, the red line IS where the rev limiter is. That should help answer your question... sort of. It's not a rule, but I think the only cars that will let you exceed the red line are the ones that have a tach from the factory.

I am trying to get a new tach yes. That's why I wanted to know, just in case. Thanks guys, that's kinda what I thought it was.

redline is 6800 but max power is at 6200

that sounds more like a vtec engine to me.....the tach on my brothers ex redline is around 6800....
