To answer your questions. Yes wrapping your header can cause it to crack if moisture gets in between the wrap and against the metal of the header, which is why I painted mine with high temperature paint. My friend has had his painted and wrapped for 2-3 years now and no problems. And then on top of it you spray another coat to seal the water out of the wrap.

Painting and wrapping the header will make the heat stay in the header to go out the exhaust where it's supposed to go. Warm up of the engine is quicker and more efficient, A/C works more efficiently since it's right infront of the header, and the engine should work less since there is less heat.

me either, general auto part stores don't have it. I need to wrap my downpipe, it's nearly touching one of my charge pipes.

I've found out don't paint stainless steel header unless you prep it right Mine is flaking off. I may now just go get my header coated.

eh, i don't see why you would paint the wrap, no one is really gonna look at it. The heat wrap is just functional

I was afraid of that. I've never seen anyone successfully paint a header such that it does not flake after use.

Cause if you don't put some kind of coating over the wrap the wrap will corrode and rot when water and moisture get underneath fiberglass.
