Default tranny problem-help plz!

okay, here's the deal.. I was on my way to work tonight, and out of nowhere, my car started making a kind of squeaky whirly noise. I'm 99% sure it's my transmission. It made the noise in every gear, and also when it was in neutral. The noise got worse when I put in the clutch to shift. There was also a faint smell of transmission fluid. My car's shifting okay and all.. it just has this awful noise I don't know what's wrong with her I was hoping someone had an idea of what it could be.

Halfway home, the noise stopped, but I'm sure it'll come back again. I had my car in the shop at work on Monday for an oil change. I told them while it's in there, to look it over and let me know if it needs anything done to it. All they told me it needs are brake pads in 3 months, and belts in 4-6 months. I'd think that they'd notice if the transmission was f-ed up.. but I dunno. I really dunno too much about cars. But when I go into work, I'm gonna give em hell, and tell them that I think they broke my car, and that theyre gonna fix it for free!!! I'm really upset about this!!!!

Does anyone know what could be wrong with my car?? And do you think the dealership could have broken it?

Thanks! Sorry this was so long.

sounds like your throwout bearing or a pilot bearing. It's one of those things that can start at any time. They tend to just get noisier and noisier. I think I left mine in bad shape for about 6 months befor eI did anything about it. If you've had your clutch done recently, then it's either the pilot bearing (sometimes they don't replace that) or it's a bearing inside the tranny, and it's going to be a pain to take care of. But most likely the throw out bearing or pilot bearing...

i took it to work and had the service department look at it.. and they drove it and told me that my clutch is in bad shape (the car starts in 3rd gear, lol).. so i need a new clutch, and he said the noise is prolly the throwout bearing (the noise was gone when it was there of course!!) so i'm gonna have to get a clutch in the next few months. i'm glad it wasn't anything major though!!

one thing about a clutch is not that hard to do and if you are doing it you might as well upgrade to an act 2600 or something to get that little bit more out of it
