Default Maintenance Required light

So the light is changing and i am not sure why. I am like 1500 miles till the next oil change and like 7500 from the 60,000 mile check up. The car is running fine besides the mpg being a little lower then normal, but i think the hot weather has something to do with that. So can some one shed some light on why the light is slowly changing for green to yellow(which it is on now) to red? i would appreciate any help

oh that light doesn't mean jack.. ur mechanic probably forgot to reset it last time you got your oil changed.. just use ur key and stick it into that switch next to the light and it should go back to green

that maintenance light is only for people who don't know their maintenance schedule and rely on a red light to tell them when their oil change is due

Thanks for the responses. I figured it was nothing to worry about but i thought it might be a good idea to check just in case
