Default HELP!! Speedo stopped working and CEL

Started my 95 EX on the way to my friends house and noticed my speedo and odometer stopped working. Then the check engine light came on. Everything else seems to be working just fine. Tach, gas and temp all work OK.

How do I check which code it's throwing without a code reader and taking it to the dealer? Could it be as simple as a fuse?

Yes, could be as simple as a fuse.

Here's a how-to on the CEL: http://www.jdmfan.com/technical/other/troubleshoot_dtc/

Next time the CEL comes on, either use the FAQ Westcoast posted, or take it to an Advanced auto Parts, they will check what the CEL means for free.

don't take it to advanced. They use a different coding system and they suck at it. Ask CiviChik.. she knows :chuckles:

Checking your DTCs are easy, just follow that how-to or the one out on www.c-speedracing.com

Figured it out. Ran the code and it came up as 17. Speed sensor which was my gut feeling. Hope its not too hard to replace or too expensive.

Thanks for all the help guys.

the speed sensor should be easy to replace, and it should only cost you around $50 or so

Buy a Hane's complete teardown and rebuild manual for your car. It has a whole list of the CEL codes and how to access them.
