Default D16Y8. Now what?

Okay, so now I know that if I'm gonna go SOHC VTEC, I need to go with the D16Y8, and I also know that I can use ZC pistons and rods to have stronger rods and higher compression pistons (right?). Now my question is, what do I do about a cam? I want the broadest range power-band I can make. Any suggestions? Also, I want it set up so that the motor runs at peak fuel efficiency until VTEC kicks in, then I want the thing to dump the fuel in for max power. How do I do this? Do I have to have a chip made? I dunno, my other car has no ECU.

Go with the LS rods modified instead of ZC's and why is the D16Y8 better than the D16Z6? IMO the 2 HP difference is not worth the problems of OBD-II. And if you have to go SOHC VTEC get a JDM D15B VTEC. 130HP to start. Are you going all motor? Get a P&P, valves, springs, etc. before you buy cams.

The LS rods will be a better choice. The girth difference is huge between the two rods. All the D16 rods are toothpick-like.

CROWER used to do the modifications to make the LS rods fit D16, but they no longer do it. You can email them and check if you want.

I have a set of (4) for sale.

I need to use the Y8 head because of CA smog requirements. I wouldn't pass the visual with an OBD1 head on an OBD2 car.

Alright, here's what I've come up with so far... Y8 head, ZC pistons, LS rods (if I can get the ones I'm looking at right now. Otherwise I'll stick with the ZC or Y8 rods depending on what is bigger), Crower stage 1 cam, stock Y8 valves and springs, Y8 intake manifold, Y8 oil pump, Y8 ECU, B16 Throttle Body (I read that it fits), and a bunch of normal bolt-ons. Bolt-ons and exhaust come last.

I'll keep it in mind. If I can find one I'll take your advice. Thanks

If you're looking at my rods, then I must let you know that you need floating-type wrist pins. e.g. aftermarket pistons (stock pistons have the wrist pins pressed in)

However, a shop can always modify it to fit for you; entirely up to you.
