Hey everyone im about to buy a cam gear for my D16y8 and i didnt know who's to buy

 

Generally, the more clamping screws it has, the better. I don't remember offhand who makes the best ones though.

 

Skunk2 is the best combo of price and quality.

STR seems pretty good as well, but I haven't heard any reviews.

 

anyone have a Zex cam, I wanna hear some first hand impressions!!

 

i got skunk2......you can adjust retar/advance 5degrees.......no reason to go more than 5 either way on SOHC if all you have is i/h/e.

 

i got a hayame, 6 point, +- 10 degrees

My question is: Why do you want one? On a SOHC motor, without FI it won't make a HUGE difference messing with the timing. On the DOHC models they adjust the cam overlap and can produce sick results. Save your money and buy a shot of juice or something.

 

well on an sohc you can raise or lower your torque curve, or did you not know that?

 

The problem with an adjustable cam gear on a SOHC is that you are adjusting the intake and exhaust timing at the same time. This makes it not nearly as useful for the money as a pair gears on a DOHC, where you can independantly adjust the intake and exhaust timing.

For best results, you need to have it dyno tuned, which also adds to the overall HP/$ cost. You really won't even notice a difference without other modifications, ideally the gear is added at the same time as an aftermarket cam... so you can time the new cam to give its highest output.
