Default D16 Crank/Rod Ratio

Hey y'all,
I just got my 97 Civic DX about 6 weeks ago, and I have never driven a weaker car! I also have a Stingray Corvette (which I am selling ), and since there is such a huge difference in power between the two, I have become determined to bridge the gap. The Civic is now my driver, which means I still need to retain reliability as well as good fuel mileage. I was thinking about just changing the head to a single cam VTEC head. I was doing some reading lately though and learned that I should try to get the Crank/Rod ratio to 1.75. Supposedly this ratio will help to produce a few more horses as well as allow the motor to live longer. I also read that this ratio is really bad on my poor little DX (My Civic has asthema!), but that the B16 motors have a good ratio. Is this true? If so, is it possible for me to just use the crank and rods from a B16 in my D16, and if so, what else will I have to change? Please don't just tell me that it's not worth it and to just get a B16, I want to collect info for my project before I decide anything. Thanks to all!

crank and rods from b16 wont go in d16 at least i dont think they do. you could just swap in a b16, trying to squeeze power out of a d16, especially one from a DX, is kinda hard, unless boosted.

I just want to keep my little D16. If any of you know of any nice little tricks to boost the EFFICIENCY of the motor, I would love to know! Thanks...

I know about the normal stuff (I do own a Corvette!), I'm looking for tech Honda stuff here, not "Get an AEM Intake and DC Headers"

B series and D series engines cannot share internals.

Very few people truly mod out the D series motors, simply because for naturally aspirated power it's typically cheaper and easier to throw in a B series motor and mod that.

The D series just aren't designed to be performance engines. Especially in terms of the nonvtec engines. The water jacket is relatively small by Honda standards, which means the block can't be resleeved for more displacement. (.1L more, max.) Also, the heads are designed for inexpensive production and fuel economy - no high flow numbers here, especially with the nonvtecs. Possible streetable NA horsepower, you're looking at a max of about 200 whp. And that's with some serious cash invested.

the best thing you could do is slap in some higher compression pistons, and an aggressive cam.
For pistons, you could run aftermarket, or get pistons out of an older ZC engine.
The vtec head would help quite a bit. I'd probably suggest using the d16z6 head, and the d16y8 intake manifold. The y8 intake manifold flows a little better, and the older z6 head flows better as well. Then you could run either the p2p ecu or the obd2 p28. I believe the obd2 p28 was only in the 96-97 del sol si (could be wrong on that, but that's the only place I've seen them). Check out http://pub34.ezboard.com/bhondadseries
It's devoted to D series engines, and can be a great resource for parts and info.

Default Some Questions

Is it smog legal to use a z6 head on my car? I'm new at this Honda stuff, but isn't the z6 an OBDI? I've heard this it is rather difficult to make a z6 work on my car. Is any of this true? And what motor/car are ZC pistons from? I guess that's it. I'll ask some more as they come to me...
Thanks
PS Anybody wanna buy a Corvette?
