Thanks, those were the words I was looking for! If we had struts, we'd be able to run camber plates like these to adjust camber and/or caster.

It's like Washington red apples and Fuji green apples. They're both still apples just with different names because they come from different trees.

Shocks and struts are both dampers but they have different names because they come from different suspensions.

Most cars with double a-arms like pre-2001 Civics have shocks. Keeps the wheels/tires more planted on the ground. Whereas the strut is part of the suspension that it is integrated into the a-arms.

It really depends on the car. Not all struts are integrated to a control arm. Also, what car are you talking about?
