you most likely have r12, which is the older type. ac systems are measured in pounds. most cars take 2-4 pounds of freon. I think you are supposed to convert to r134a to save the environment :ghey: so its really hard to find r12. at our shop it costs like $60 a pound. r134a costs like $5. converting is hard though because you have to decharge the system, then change a bunch of seals so that the new seals are clean and ready for r134a. its best to take it to a shop.

I bought the conversion from R12 to R134a at Kmart for $35. Same kit is also used to refill existing R134a. My car already had R134A, but just needed to be refilled. Main reason I bought the whole kit is it came with all the fittings to do just about any car. I comes with the oil, 3 cans of R134A, and various fittings. My car has a leak, and needs to be refilled once a year. At $5 a can its a lot cheaper to fill it up once a year than get the leak fixed. If you decide to do it make sure you read the instructions VERY carefully, and follow them exactly.

Thats the one I got. Not too hard, just follow the instructions so you don't kill yourself. BTW connect the fitting to the biggest hose (low pressure side), not the small one on a civic. It should (might) have a blue cap with an L on it.
