Hey all,

was just wondering.... my CV boots have not yet started to leak fluid, but they are developing cracks.

The mechanic recommended I wait till they burst and the axle goes bad, then replace the whole axle, but I figure why if there isnt anything wrong with it.

I know that its almost as cheap to get a whole new axle as to replace the CV boot at a lot of places, so....

what I am wondering, is there any way to strengthen the boots? Like fill in the cracks will some rubber sealing compound to extend their life? Eventually they will go, but I have another few years of college left.... and I think my money would be better spent on other things..

You could go to Autozone and buy Quick Boots but I don't recommend them because they don't last long from what I have heard.

 

I'd just wait till they go bad and replace the whole thing. You can do it in less than a hour if you know what your doing.

 

My Honda guy told me the my boots are starting to crack. I asked for an estimate and he told me $200 to replace both. Is that a bad price?

 

That is a good price. My friend paid $120 for one side and two weeks later the other went...

 

It's easy with the right tools. Just slap a bunch of silicone on the cracks and you should be set for a while if they have just started to crack.
