and why wasn't their a tach in the 5 spds? that was kind of puzzling

It's "there," not "their." It came with the d15b7. It is a sohc non vtec engine. The tach is something that some of them got, others didn't. I've seen dx's both ways.

The DX's didn't come with tach's from the factory. You can always swap in an EX, LX, or Si cluster.

The engine had either 107hp or 109hp

dx came with 106hp, weak but mine took more abuse than a red headed step child

it's 107 chp and 89 whp

And, my '95 DX doesn't have a factory tach (5 speed)
