Default Looking to buy a del sol, questions.

I am thinking of buying a sol(never own a convertible before). I am looking at either a 5spd si or a vtec. I am a little concerned about the highway cruising comfort cause i'll be doing quite a lot of long trips. So how is the sound insulation and wind noise? is it bumpy as my GSR? what's the cruising rpm in 5th gear at 80mph?
Thanx.

I would go vtec although si isn't bad...(still miss my d16z6). You're going to get a bit of noise, and ride comfort is okay. For high speed, the sol isn't really great compared to a gsr or civic. Crusin rpm with my vtec is pretty high on 5th gear, somewhere around 4, 4 1/2. Something like that. The b16 tops out pretty quickly on 3rd gear, redline is about 85mph. I could a little off but in the ballpark. Hope this helps you out a little bit.

I had a 93 Civic LX sedan and I think the noise level was better in that car. I'm really concidering putting in tons of sound deadening in my sol cause it's unbearable for me. What I hate more than the noise is the chassis flex. It's nowhere near as stiff as the Civic let alone an Integra. If you're used to the integra and want something similar in ride quality and comfort, you may be looking for the wrong car. I don't regret buying this car, I love it to death, but I'm going to do some serious sound deadening when I get the chance and money.

Although when I first bought the sol, it seamed quieter than my civic, but then as time passed, it seemed to get louder and louder. Eh, come to think of it, I did put 16" wheels on it and lowered it. That makes a HUGE difference as well. I did put some front and rear strut bars in and it helped the flexiness of the car.

Oh, and wind noise...I don't think I hear wind noise unless it's super duper windy outside...

dude, just edit your posts if you wanna add more info

anyway...yeah, there is a bit of chassis flex which causes a slight squeak , and the sol seats are a lil stiff since they are more sport oriented than your normal civic buckets... if you dont mod the car loud muff or race cams, then you should be ok. Oh, and if you're claustraphobic the sol might give you problems... other than that, i made a few longer distance in my car and the only problem is my ass gets numb after a few hours

In comparison, my sol is a little louder than my buddy's GSR. I do have more aftermarket parts that increase the sound volume (headers, exhaust), but it's not too bad. It's way better than my buddy's CX hatch. That thing has jack for sound deadening from the factory, so it's loud as fawk.
The flexing chassis is GREATLy diminished when you get good shocks and some strut bars on the car. The shocks being the biggest factor. Even with tokico blues, I hated the flex. Now with KYB AGX's, it's WAY better. My Si sits at about 4500 going 80 in 5th. I still always get 32mpg when I beat on it out on the freeway. If you take it easy, I can get about 35....

i hear no noise coming from my car...only from my speakers if i turn it down i hear stuff that needs to be fixed or tightened. i only hear wind noise when i'm going way too fast and the top's off and the windows are down. i've taken mine on long trips and it's great especially in nice weather with the top off. greeeeeeat on gas and that's always a plus!
