Default Top of the Engine?

I'm looking at buying this 99 Civic Si tomorrow.

I've looked at the motor and it doesn't have the black or red top that says Vtec on it. Does that mean it's a different engine than the one that came in it?

Does the original 99 civic si engine just have a plain metal top on it with no writing?

Thanks for the help.

SI motors did come with a black valve cover that did say vtec DOHC on it,...check the engine code on the block,..it should read b16a2,....sounds kinda fishy to me,...the only other reason i can think of why it wouldnt say vtec on it is if he has an aftermarket valve cover,..or he shaved the letters off and repainted the valve cover but thats highly unlikely,...what color is the valve cover?

but your also missing the point of his thread.

b16a2 is the bottom end...you need to read the numbers on the head aswell.

Default In Canada.

It's in canada. SO that means it is SOHC. Boo.

So what kind of hp does that put out then? Which engine code is it?

Sucks that I already bought it but I got a good deal so I'll be able to sell it for more. Ah well.
