Default 93 civic hb gas tank leak

I have a small gas leak coming from the gas tank drain bolt on the lower left side of the gas tank. Its a very slow leak, in the morning there will be a 2.5inch greasy/gassy spot on the ground.Just wondering what would be the best way to repair this?.Should I try tightening it up or just get a new drain bolt/washer and install it after running the car to near bone dry empty?Safety here is my main concern around any gas leaks.Any suggestions would be appreciated. The honda manual shows a picture of the drain bolt on page 11-131 if anyone has one.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

I'd just go get a new one from honda, with the O ring.

BUT, make sure you have pleanty of cigarettes, and possibly a torch handy before you crack that bad boy open! WAIT, NO!!!

Seriously, once you get the O ring replaced, it should be dandy, but make sure you torque it to spec. Don't need to strip it out and have to rethread it.

Just ordered a new gas tank drain plug and washer for $2.
Just for kicks i asked the service department how much
they would charge to replace the bolt/washer, they said $92!
because they had to drain the tank.I said how much if i bring
the tank in empty? They came back with $46! they have to
perform a leak test.Im not paying the dealer a half hour labor to remove and re-install one bolt, ill do it myself.....

Default follow up

Replaced gas tank drain plug and o-ring/washer.The old washer
was pretty much desintegrated from road salt even though
I had to remove undercoating from the old bolt to remove it.
No more leakage.......

cool you got it fixed. if you ever want to leak test your gas tank, here's the cheap DIY way. get a valve stem and a spare gas cap that seals tight. drill the gas cap. push the valve stem in and silicone it in so it's airtight. then get a bicycle pump and pressurize the tank and listen for air hissing out. just some DIY
