Help with strange sound
hi
i've got a 2000 honda civic si (canadian) with 74,000 km's on it. I've got a weird sound that sounds like a metal clank. This happens when the car has been sitting over night or atleast an hour or so. When taking off i hear this metal clank. Never happens on the first take off, usually at the first stop sign i come to or red light, it might even do it at the second then it never happens again. I've mentioned it at honda when i went in for service but they found nothing wrong with exhaust, heat shields, hangers, suspension. It seemed to me that the clank was coming from the rear of the car but a friend of mine standing outside told me that it seems to come from the front. I'm worried that it might be tranny related....but the car runs great, drives great, clutch feels great. I bought the car new and it drives like i bought it yesterday.
I hear the clank (sometmes quite loud, other times faint) just as i am moving forward and letting go off the clutch...and i've also rolled it into first, come off the clutch completely then hit the gas to take off and clank again. For this reason i tend to beleive its not tranny related but i am no mechanic. A couple of clanks at the first couple or red lights and thats it. My car does not make any other sounds.
any ideas would be appreciated. thanks
Dan

Check the donut gasket between the down pipe and the long pipe that goes to the back. Sometimes if that gasket wears out, the two pipes will clang together at thier union as the engine torques to take off.
i would agree with him on gasket check all the gaskets for the header back and check the hangers again to see if there on tight worse case take to it the muffler shop and have them put it on a lift
