manual transmission...
I'm planning to get rid of my 1990 Integ (automatic w/ a half dead transmission) and get something else w/ a stickshift this time. I have no clue how to do manual yet.
First of all, how hard or easy is manual? Do I have to practice a lot to get good at it? I hear some ppl busted their clutch first time they were practicing stick-shift.
I just want answers involving your previous experience w/ stickshift. How long it took you to learn it, whether or not you thought it was hard or easy.
Thx for your time

hey dude, its pretty much up to you, on how hard or easy it is.
for me it was easy... i never stalled, or over-revved, just seem to be natural... but i even taught my gf and a couple of her friends to drive stick in a few hours and a few burning clutch smells/stalls/shakes later... and they pretty much got it too..
im sure u could get it..
when u start... put it in 1st,rev up to 1000 rmps not 10,000 lmao..and let off the clutch SLOWLY
it seems like most people forget to let off the clutch slowly....
then with time it will be normal... and if u drive a automatic after driving a standard for awhile, you will be pushing for the clutch pedal that isnt there.
well at least i was...
ill get my pics up this week!

i remember back when i had my stick (auto now :down
. i got the car before i really knew how to drive it, but after a day or so, i never stalled after that. once you get a feel for where the clutch starts grabbing, it's a piece of cake. it just takes practice, so don't decide against it because you can't do, otherwise you'll never be able to do it. i will probably never buy an automatic again. maybe when i'm super old, but i doubt it.

my dad took me out a few times, and i really wasn't very good.
when I first got my car, i knew the basics, and I could shift, not smoothly. after a day or 3 in my car, it was almost second nature. After a while your smoothness will improve.
Two of my friends used to have autos on their old cars, i convinced them to get manuals on their new cars even though they didn't know how to drive them. Both picked up on it soon after they got their car. Its amazing what you can learn whe nyou have to.

Yeah it's not that difficult to drive a stick. Maybe a week max to get good at it. Usually they say it takes longer for females to learn than guys.
Now it's just second nature, I forget that I even shift.
