Default common question.

I know this has probably been asked a hundred times. But would a b18b run a faster 1/4 mile than a 1st gen b16a swapped into a 5th gen hatch? The reason I think it would is becuase of the torque. I tried the search but there wasn't really anything this specific.

I think the high end on the B16a will prevail....the driver would also play a crucial part.

Default What's up?

In that sort of race, stock, the B16A would probably win simply because you'll spend most of your time in the upper rpm range which is where the B16A has most of it's power. Also, assuming your using stock trannies, the more aggressively geared B16A tranny will help it outrun a B18B but not by much. In normal driving, the B18B will "feel" much stronger and faster. Seeya.

B16 will own that B18B, 170hp vs 140 hp, that right there my friend is why it would win, if your going b18b, make it into a LS/VTEC. then it'll own any B16.

First gen B16A= 160hp, 111ft-lbs
early run B18B=142hp, 127ft-lbs

Now that we have that straight, the B16 would pull ahead because of the HP and gearing difference. The B18B would most likely get a good jump on the B16A at the beginning because of the torque difference.

With some bolt ons though the b18b would take the b16. (a turbo kit is a bolt on)

okay here is some helpful hints in this dilema you have

1. i have a b16a2 5th gen hatch 168hp
2. my roommate has a b18b 5th gen hatch 140hp
3. we have run a few times but never at the track nor a full 1/4 mile
4. when we do run he destroys me off the line.
5. i get in my power band and slowly creep on him.
6. when we actually race a true 1/4 mile my predictions are hella close.
7. we are going to the track in a few weeks and i will post the results.

B16A will win.
I had a 98 LS w/ a 1st gen B16A, I raced my friend w/ a 94 Civic EX w/ a 98 LS swap...I had i/h/fact exhaust , he had i/h/e I'd beat him by a 1/2 car every time from a roll, dead stop by 1-2 cars, (I can drive better).
