Default Rattling...

Something under my car/on the motor (I couldn't tell at first) started to rattle a little while back and has seemed to get worse over time. All my heatshields seemed to be tight when I checked. After knocking the cat a couple times, I've realized that's where the rattling is coming from. Has anyone else had a catalytic converter go bad? It isn't the heatshield...it seems to be the cat itself. Also, I might as well upgrade to a high-flow cat if it's worth it...anyone been able to tell a difference between stock and a high-flow cat?

Sometimes when you install an aftermarket header or tamper with the exhaust system, a loose bolt can cause the car to rattle at low RPMS.

Its normal on some but it shouldnt be TOO noticeble. Check and see if the bolts on your Header, and Cat and exhaust are tightened properly..if they are loose any small movement can cause them to rattle metal against metal.

Well, the problem is that it seems like the heatshield is tight, and none of the bolts are loose at all...could it still be that it's loose anyway?

I had this problem from the header to the cat. Make sure you have those springs on there and that its really tight.

I know that you said you think the rattle is coming from your cat, but did you check the rest of your exhaust? I had to bend a few of my hangers on my car when I put on an aftermarket exhaust because the rear flange hit the gas tank. Not a big deal. I know a lot of guys who had the same problem. It was easily fixed. Just a suggestion.

even when the bolts are tight, the cat's heat sheild will still rattle. Rip the fugger off, and you'll be fine. I pulled a friend's off in a parking lot cause it was pissing me off so much. It won't affect anything. Honestly, why does honda bother with them?
