Default Cruise control

I'm wondering if I can remove my cruise control in my 98 Civic LX. The cruise control isn't to great, and I was thinking I'd just remove as much of it as I could. Can I just leave the vac hoses unconnected? Or will that screw something up?
Thanks.

Is it in your way? Why remove it just to remove it? When I put in my Sparco wheel, I went to great lengths to retain my cruise control. Just saying.

I just want to remove it because it's really bad. I basically can't use it. Whenever I'm going down the road, and I set the cruise, I can't disengage it quickly. I tap the brake, and it takes several seconds to disengage the cruise. And, if I need to stop quickly, and I push in the clutch, it revs the engine really hard for several seconds. It's pointless for me to have it.

I know I wouldn't mechanically gain anything, but it would free up some space under my hood, and it would get ride of the ugly cruise control mechanism.

Sounds like you have a problem, possibly a vacuum leak? I'd fix it, you might be pissing away fuel economy if something isn't working right. I've had '98 EK's and the cruise control did not behave as you described.
