Default New Guy here, Civic Dx smokes

just bought it last sat, doesnt smoke at idle, rev it up leaves black soot on the ground, when driving, you hit the gas, i think maybe its the valves makin a chatter noise and then you get the black smoke out the back, need a valve adjustment? can i do it myself? also how hard are timin belts to do... thanks guys

Sounds like you're running rich. Meaning too much unburned fuel. Could also be carbon buildup being blown out.

it smokes everytime you get on it, it ONLY SMOKES when I hear what I think are the valves being loose

if it were piston rings it'd smoke at idle, do these cars have MAF sensors?

It really sounds like carbon. Especially because of the black soot.

I suggest adjusting valves, checking oil when cold, then running Sea Foam through that bitch.
