Default Headlight replacement?

Hey people,

I'm looking to simple replace the OEM lights in my head lights for something a little brighter, or possibly better looking.

I've heard horror stories about wiring harnesses getting melted and such, and really don't know which types of bulbs would do the trick of just providing a bit better visibility.

Any suggestions or experience?

Thanks!

I have Sylvannia XtraVision's. They're under $15 a pop and brighter than stock.
