it is possible but what made them say that? Because that is rather random to just be like oh your V-tec isn't working. It could be alot of things but my bet wuld be a bad v-tec solenoid. Who knows though without a list of symptoms. What motor do you have in your car?

I dont know how you would go about it specifically but my guess would be take it somewhere and get it diagnosed. I believe it throws a cel light if its bad but im not sure.

Again why do you think its not working?

First thing i'd check is definetly oil - low oil pressure can cause it to cut out of vtec, or not engage at all. Also (I'm not sure on the Z6 motor) but on most others, if it is not up to a certain termperature yet, vtec won't kick in. So if you just left your driveway and planted it - probably not gonna engage.

Oil pressure
Coolant temp
Speed sensor

Those three things need to be opperating/working order for vtec to work. I will also add that it's not very easy to hear vtec in a single cam like a B-series or H-series motor.

Check those things, if every thing seems fine, the vtec solenoid screen may be clogged, check that. Put a test light in-line to your vtec solenoid and see if it lights up when vtec is supposed the engauge.
