Default Dipstick

I have been having a problem with my dipstick popping out, since the installation of my turbo and additional injectors. Im wondering what Im doing wrong, needless to say, my passanger compartment filling up with smoke while Im in full boost on the freeway is fairly dangerous. If you have any ideas they would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

I have a fairly good idea of what your problem is... and it's not pretty. Two words: blowby gasses. This is BIG BIG trouble, man... the boost is pushing the combustion gasses past the piston rings, increasing the crankcase pressure until it's so high, the only thing which can give - the dipstick - is forced out by the pressure. I've also heard of people losing oil caps the same way.

Anyway, check your compression. If you've lost some then this is 100% your culprit. If it's ok, you're lucky: the rings haven't been really messed up yet, but lower the boost ASAP.

There are several methods to correct this - if your PCV system is clogged (positive crankcase ventilation = PCV), the gasses that naturally build up can't escape, and push out the dipstick. Solution: replace the PCV valve. If the system and valve are clean and clear, then you have a nasty problem - the turbo itself is causing so much pressure building that the PCV system can't vent it all. In that case, your rings are dead, and you'll need a rebuild.

I really hope this isn't the issue, but you have the *classic* symptoms. Turbo Volvos are very prone to this, with their terrible PCV systems and weak pistons and rings as it is - that's how I learned all of this, with my 740 Turbo. Good luck - I'll keep an eye for your compression results. But it looks like this is your problem.
