i want turbo...i have an LX...its auto...damn
before i start, i just wanted to say that i already did a search and didnt really find much. ok guys, im gonna keep it short. i just bought a 96 civic lx sedan. all my money is going to suspension rite now but i wanted to know if its possible to but a bolt-on turbo for my car. i really like the greddy bolt on kit and realize that i would have to put an EX/SI head on the d16. my question is, do you think its a good idea to turbo my engine? i hear a lot of talk about manual swaps but i really dont wanna pay a million bux for labor. thanks for your time..any opinions would be appreciated.
PS... dont tell me to buy another car with a manual and dont tell me to just buy a new motor. i dont have a money tree in my backyard. =)

Some guy on HT makes 212whp with a D16Y8. Zex cam, some othet stuff I dont remember.
Yes it is possible. No, I'd get a manual tranny 1st. And if you dont want a manual swap, then why even bother.

dude for the cost of a full turbo kit ur better of doing a full motor and tranny swap for a b18 or if u wanna only spend like 2500 or so get a b16....good horse power, low miles, 5speed, and lots of opertunities to modifie in the future...best choice i would say...and it would cost about the same as turbo kit for ur car...and greddy kit is expencive and doesnt even come with an intercooler....u might spend MORE on a turbo and new head then a full motor swap
hey, first of all, i would say that we are on the same boat, have to stuck with a/t . , i've been asking around and also got a lot of help from this forum. thanks guys..
but there is not many choices you have here...you can always go with greddy, then you are talking about 2500, then it does not come w/ intercoller...and also you can not run more than 7psi (i guess).
moreover, you have to built your internal which mean more $$$. it would be nice to save a little more money to get a swap...like B16 is a good option....
if you want to stay with your engine, my friend run his d16y8 with jrsc for more than 20000 miles, and still works fine. but he always said his car is not fast enough...
hope this helps ,good luck

I've asked around and the general concensus is that the auto tranny won't be able to handle the extra power (read: frequent tranny problems). Of course if you really want to keep the auto tranny you do do torque converter work, but that's a whole different story.
where in hell are you guys getting this $2,500 figure for a GReddy turbo kit for a D16? You can get a brand new one through honda-tech.com for 1550 plus shipping...find me a freakin' B16A full swap for 1550...
