Default Keyless entry

I have power door locks on my 96 Civic LX, but I am looking into putting a simple keyless entry system. The Honda system says that it is very simple:all you need to do is connect to the radio port. UNfortunatly, I have an aftermarket stereo system. Has anyone added this feature and if so, any difficulties? Do I have to have the stock radio?

Well there are many keyless entry systems you can get for your car that are not the stock keyless entry system... so I wouldn't assume you need a stock radio to install a third party keyless entry system...

just get an alarm with keyless entry....after all, you have a civic, and people will be eyeing it to make it their own.

yeah, I got an alarm when I got my tint done. For $270 total, autopage alarm with keyless entry, and now 20% all around tint.

if you wanna use the factory keyless entry you have to shove your stock HU down into the dash, behind the cup holder and connect one of the green harnesses to it. then you need a reverse harness and connect the red, black and yellow wires to the harness that goes into the factory wiring harness.. then put the aftermarket one in...

or you could just get an aftermarket alarm.. clifford RS3 is next for me.. but right now i have the stock-HU-shoved-in-dash keyless entry :exnbp:

yeah, its not too bad. The remote range is a little short (maybe 50') and the buttons on it are sensitive (I'll be working on the car with my keys in my pocket and the alarm will set, or the same will happen when I'm getting into my car), but I don't really care about that. Minor annoyances.

The alarm is set super-sensitive, I guess, because if I lightly kick the tires, or if I'm inside and touch the stering wheel, or if I lightly tap the windows, the alarm will go off. Hell, my brother once set off the alarm when he was sweeping the driveway and hit my wheels.

Yet, it doesn't go off constantly. Airplanes rarely make it chirp unless they're going directly overhead (such as when I'm at work). I like it, definatly a good value.

and no one has broken in yet. yet....
