Default rear disc conversion

Is it worth it to do a rear disc conversion? I have a 96 DX coupe, I'm gonna use the money I got from selling my gsr wheels, and found someone selling a rear disc brake setup from a 94 integra for 150, and someone selling a setup from a 99 integra for 225obo. Before I go out and spend the money on this, is it really worth it, or should I spend my money on other things? I plan on swapping in a GSR engine once my car is paid off. I just put on gunmetal rota c8's, so using the money towards new rims is out of the question.

Well if you plan to swap a GSR engine in your civic, i would swap my rear brakes because you will have more power from the gsr engine, and need more stoping power.

Its mostly a cosmetic thing, from what I've heard. The stoping power isn't that much better, since something like 80% of stopping comes from the front.

but I'd jump on the older kit and upgrade the discs/pads/maybe rotors as well.

I'm doing the same for my 94 DX coupe. GSR rear disc for $300. All the torsion arms, hubs, calipers, rotors. I'm also planning on doing a GSR or a Civic Type R motor swap. The thing i'm having concerns about is, front and rear disc size is about the same diameter. If i run a slotted rotor on the back alone, in theory it will run cooler and be more effective than the front. Heat is what kills brakes. Now, what to do till i do the swap. Live with it or spend a little extra and beef up my dx front brakes.

If youre getting a gs-r swap, you'll want brakes that don't suck. Not only should you get the rear disk swap, but you'll probably want integra front brakes and a larger master cylinder.

I went ahead and got slotted rotors and steel lines along with this setup, and it feels awesome. A bigger motor will definitely overpower your stock brakes.

bigger brakes in the front will suffice, spend the money and time from your rear swap on your motor for now.

i believe i read that like 17% of your brake power is from the rears, the other 83% is fronts. it maybe 27/73 but either way you get the point.

steel lines are good, too.

I have it... improved my braking dramatically.

80% is done up front with drums. If you change out to the teg proportioning valve its 70/30 get that, and nice new brake pads all around - and depending on the condition of the parts your buying.. new rotors all around, and you will stop like its nobody's buisness.

get the brakes that guy is selling +
15/16" non-ABS master cylinder w/ booster (1" works but you have to reflare your brake lines) (6th gen civics may not need a change out, ask inspyral.)

teg or del sol VTEC proportioning valve

eventually if i were you I would get the front brakes changed over too soon.

its awsome

you can get SS brake lines anywhere... check out www.groupbuycenter.com usually around $100 or less.

i have 99 gsr rear trailing arms complete with gsr rear disk breaks on my 99 civic ex, the whole trailing arm bolt right in with no hassle, the only problem i ran into is you have to do some modifying of the E-brake cable to get it to fit right. other than that i also added the civic si brake master cylinder. the swap was easy and took a few hours.

my opinion, well worth it. not only does it make your car look better with rims. but also breaking was really improved. some steel braided break lines would help alot more also.

what kind of modification did you have to do to make the e-brake cable fit?
