I have a custom 2-1/4" exhaust piping from the cat back and I need a new muffler. My problem is that most exhaust systems are cat back. I need just a muffler or axle back w/ muffler. Anyone have any ideas? The catch is that I want a quiet, throaty sounding muffler.

That would be the ES Oval. Very nice sound muffler, quiet. All the JDM nuts love it for what ever reason.

 

www.mufflertech.com they make custom tenzo axle backs. im getting my 2.25" pipping put in today, going to a tenzo muffler... ill let u kno how it sounds

 

HKS makes a Hiper exhuast which only consists of the muffler only. I just don't know if it'll match up to your existing piping. You could check out www.digitalracer.com or www.optauto.com

Also I think that Tanabe makes universal mufflers for both their Racing and Hyper Medallion.

 

I had this same problem too, my tanabe G power medallion muffler got all crusted out and rattled. I shopped around and there aren't too many choices if you want name brand. I ended up with a real APEX N1, if you don't want to cut and weld then 5zigen makes a fireball axle back which should work.

And no tanabe does not make the hyper medallion muffler only...i wanted that and it does not exist. There may be a RM muffler but i don't think it will be real tanabe.

 

Magnaflow for sure! I have one on my '98 Civivc with out the resignator. Its tight, but if you want quiet and throughty then put the resignator on.
