I have a 1993 del sol S , 5 speed in a good condition. I love this car but cannot drive stick anymore. I am thinking of having it converted to an automatic transmission. I would appreciate if any one has any ideas if this is possible and how much would it cost for the conversion.

Also how long will it take and will it affect the performance except slowing it down a little.

My advice would be to sell it and but one with an auto.

 

goign from a manual to automatic is easy since you can leave parts in there that you don't need, but going from manual to auto is a pain in the ass. You'd have to rip out the dash, replace the wiring from an auto, or add in what isn't there, modify the center area where the shifter mounts to accomodate the auto cable shifter, and a few other things. It'd be a real hassle... Honestly, sell the 5 spd, and get an auto... plus if you can't drive a stick any more, you're probably not up for a swap. Most shops won't touch this sort of thing, and the ones that will are going to charge you about 1500 or more just for labor.
