Hey guys I have a 99 Civic Ex that lately has been giving me some problems.... for one once I've shifted into a gear (mainly 3rd) and gun it the acceleration is slow and most times there's a like a grinding noise.... my speculations are that the clutch is going bad and needs replacing but I'm not certain of what signs I need to be aware of, I've had the car for 5 years and the clutch hasnt been replaced and I doubt it was replaced previous to me owning it

well 1st do you have an auto or manual?
2nd how many miles on the car?
3rd is the grinding happening when going into gear? Or when it's already in gear?

 

its a manual with about 87K miles, the grinding happens after it has gotten into the gear just fine and if I try to accelerate faster by giving it more gas, if I accelerate at a rather slow pace there's no grinding noise

if it happens typycally at that gear only, then you got synchro problem i would say.

 

it occurs more so at that gear but its not exclusive.... also the acceleration in my car has drastically worsened

 

does this only happen exclusively in 3rd gear in relation to the acceleration problem.

 

no it'll happen in any of the other gears but more so in gears 3, 4, 5.... if I give more gas in those gears it feels like it is somewhat straining or struggling

 

Sounds like you are in too high of a gear to be accelerating. You cannot accelerate in most Hondas unless the rpms are about 3000rpms. Or the car will shake and shudder.
