Default Swap question

Alright, let me finish, then throw flames all you want...

Can I swap a b16 or any other kind of engine into an automatic? Or would I need to convert it to manual, I know that would be better anyways, but not everyone has enough money for "what's better". I just wanna know if it's possible, which I'm sure it is, just making sure. And what engine would be the best to swap in? Everyone's got an opinion, let's hear em.

And also, if and when I do convert it to a stick, about how much do you guys think it would cost...on an average? I would have no clue on how to do that, or the swap myself...doesn't that suck.

Last one...where's the best place to buy an engine to swap in? There's a junkyard around here, but like it's only 3 crap cars lol. No stores that sell them...so I guess it would have to be online.

Now this won't take place for probably another year, or maybe more...I just don't have money.

dude, I know exactly the point your trying to make. but honestly, wiring up an automatic transmission would be an absolute nightmare. no joke. its almost a requirement that you convert to stick when you swap out your motor. thats just how it is.

Also, I hear a lot of Honda B-series automatics will not fit into civics because they have slightly different mounts and the trannies are bulkier then the sticks...but this second part is just something I heard

you would have to convert to manual. no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Default What's up?

Not necessarily but I would seriously consider it. There was a guy on here a long time ago who swapped a complete B18B from an LS Integra including the B-series automatic. He said the wiring was a complete nightmare and he ended up having to convert the entire in-car harness to the Integra piece. I know he did get it to work but said he'd never do it again. I honestly don't even remember his screen name?

Regardless, most likely you will want to convert to a manual if you want to do a B-series swap. It can be done, and honestly isn't that hard, but takes a lot of work and you need the right parts. You'll need a new pedal assembly, the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinders, all the hard and soft lines and a few miscellaneous brackets and such. All the necessary threaded holes and spaces are already there. If your not comfortable doing this kind of work I'd recommend you take your car to a shop that's done it before. There's a local place here in PA that does swaps for $500 and will do auto/manual conversion for $250 with a swap (at least as of a few months ago, I can't really guarantee prices). Another option you might consider is selling your car and finding a manual version if you wanted to the swap yourself. Seeya.

I've done that swap before and it was a complete nightmare. You have to wire an Integra TCM into the civic's chassis and engine harness. Not to mention the mounts are WAY off. Never again!

where is this place? I'm going to swap my motor in the next few months, and I think I could pull it off myself, but if their is a reputable shop around that'll do it for 500, i'd do that. I'd probably have to spend 500-600 extra on some tools i would need anyway. Right now I am in Erie, but getting to Pittsburgh area would be easy. thanks a lot

Just for the record, isn't it easy to convert an integra LS automatic to a b16? I remember that the delsol had a b16 in it and also was an auto... So if you used that ECU, and either the LS or b16 auto tranny, it should wire up without much problem...

Correct me if im completely retarted, that makes sense to me.

And I agree with the others, keeping your car an auto would be a waste of time.
