Default Smog Test/ECU questions

Well I was reading about reprogramming ECU'S on www.jdmhondaparts.com, and it said he wouldn't guarantee that people would pass their emissions test. I'm looking to get a b18c1 swap soon, only thing holding me back is getting time off of work and more info I need that I dont have. Now I'm worried about not passing a smog test, I don't want to have an illegal car. So if I just got a b18c1 (GSR) swap with just a GSR ECU will I be okay??? I live in california if that matters by the way, Thanks

Yeah, if you get a GSR (b18C1), and use a stock GSR ECU you shouldn't have any problems if you peform the swap correctly. I'd be leary of his disclaimer for a reprogrammed ECU.

make sure you get an ecu for your cars year or newer if you get the stock gsr ecu. since you have a 6th gen, you will be obd2 meaning almost everyone of those chipped ecu's wonrk work without an obd2-1 adapter harness.
i know for a fact that a mugen program p28 will NOT pass due to the richness of the fuel map.

obd2 has stricter controls, and when they test your car for smog compliance they will attach their computer directly to your car's ecu to take readings from it. obd1 they cant do that, they can only confirm visual stuff and run a sniffer test.
