need help
Hi everyone i was wondering if anyone could help me out on this. i have a 95 civic dx, auto, i recently replaced the head gasket, the head, etc. however, now when i pull up to a stop sign or stop light it bogs out and kills on me. this only happens when the car is warm. if i put it in nuetral or park, the car stays running but idles very low. i know there could a lot of reasons. hopefully you guys could give me some suggestions on what to look for. thanks
First thing to look for would be a misplaced or loose vacuum line. If you have a Helms manual, it should have a vacuum diagram. You may also be able to find one in the "online resources" sticky at the top of this forum.
The base idle itself is very low, it's supposed to be (below 500rpm). Is your CEL on? If so, I'd lean towards the EACV not doing it's job. Pull the codes to confirm that there's one stored for the EACV otherwise just unplug it and, when the idle doesn't change, you know that's the issue.
With a MT car, it can usually keep from stalling even w/o the EACV (and even when set at the proper base idle), but with the AT it's churning the fluid in the torque converter and more likely to stall.
In the meantime, you could try putting it in neutral as you're slowing down to try and prevent it stalling, or you can left foot brake and give light throttle to keep it from stalling when you come to a stop - that's what I had to do w/ a '93 Grand Prix that wouldn't idle by itself, ever.

I know my idle problem is the ICV (Idle control Valve). Only happens when warm like yourself. Honda said the ICV is getting old and the valve is getting stuck which regulates the idle when the car is warm.
$200 for a new part. My car was stumbling between 2000-3500rpms, after I got the head gasket replaced. So I brought it in thinking it was something the Hodna tech did after the gasket replacement.

There's a good write up on Honda-Tech.

I'm gonna try this tomorrow or Friday. One guy mentions to soak the whole thing in gum cleaner or something or that nature. For about 1-2 hours.
