AEM Cam Gears
HEY, one of my friends wants to purchase some aem cam gears for his 2000 civic.....i've heard they dont produce the 10hp they claim, has anyone added that to their cars?
AEM gears have been known to slip, which could potentially destroy your valvetrain. Other than that, I suppose they're alright. As for how much power you can net with them, that depends entirely on how well you tune them on a dyno, as well as the other mods you've done. 10hp is possible, but not on a relatively stock engine. If we're talking about a SOHC engine, I doubt you'll net much power, but you['ll be able to optimize the cam timing to get the powerband where you want it.

I have done some exstensive research and finally cam up with some information. I am currently about to install obx camgears on my 2000 si and do not want to screw up. First thing to do if you are worried about slippage is to replace to hex bolts with bolts that accept a socket. I replaced mine with 8mm 1.25 bolts. I picked them up at home depot and are zinc plated. I had to cut them to length though. This allows you to torque the bolts to the typically required 15lbs/ft of torque. The site I found also sayed the new aem cam gears have new integral washer flanges which also keep the bolts from coming loose. Well thats all i have beside what others say... Tune, Tune, Tune! Iwill let you know how mine turn out.
