Default Can I add keyless entry to a '99 GX with junkyard parts?

I have a '99 GX and the dealer says it didn't come with remote keyless entry. Can I go to the junkyard and get the parts off another model and make it work? The car does have power locks.

Unless someone else can confirm otherwise, you might just be able to buy a keyless remote and program it to your car. That's what I was able to do for my current civic.

For 96-98, the security unit was built into the factory radio, so if you used an aftermarket radio you loss the ability to use a factory keyless remote.
For 99-00 they seperated the security unit from the radio so you wouldn't lose function of your keyless remote or dome light if you changed radios.

This has been my experience with both my 98 and 00 civic.

So again, with all that said, there shouldn't be anything you'd need to get other then a remote.

From what I hear '99 and newer ones use a RKE module by the drivers kick panel so I think I would have to at least get that.

Yea it's odd there is no mention of the GX even though it's the same trim level as the LX.

never new the gx was done in the ek chassis, but yes treat it like an lx
then all you need is the remotes and you are good to go
i picked up a remote for cheap off ebay for my 97, just make sure the part # is correct for your model and year
