Default Reverse lights won't turn off Eg 5-speed

So, my reverse lights want to stay on. The lights only turn off when I shift about halfway between neutral and reverse. I noticed my reverse cable on the tranny looks a little old, but before I replace it, anything else to look at? Everything else seems fine.

I'm assuming the switch is sticking, you can just disconnect the electrical connection at the trans. as a temporary fix. Otherwise I'd remove the switch and see if you can tell what's up, might have to replace it

Werd. Thanks for the quick replies, guys. I guess I should just order a new one. It looks like a 16mm? bolt that holds the switch, so I'll just disconnect the wiring from the other end, so that I don't have a gaping hole in my tranny. o:

Doing that will make it simply turn off, right? I'm moments away from ordering a new one with a bunch of other stuff. :hsugh:

Disconnecting the wire should make the the reverse light turn off. Are they on with the key on, key off, or both? If they are on with the key off then there is going to be a short someplace.

They only come on when I turn the car on. The only time they turn off is when I turn the car off, or when I'm half way between reverse and neutral.

that makes it more easier, just cut the wire and put a switch in between it.
