would this swap require a new tranny or just the engine and ecu. I'm looking to get a cheap upgrade of hp for very little money and a little less mileage. Is this swap really easy? How much would it cost to swap it in not including the price of the engine? Any info? Thanks.

 

Holy mother of pearl! you came to the right place. I did this swap this summer, and it's a piece of cake. All you need is the engine (complete with dist, intake manifold, etc) the engine wiriing harness and the ecu. If you have any questions at all, hit me up. EASY as pie swap.

 

How much did you pay for your engine, etc... and how many miles did it have? How many hours did it take you total? Sounds like you're satisfied.

 

I got the engine, tranny, ecu, axles, and shiftlinkage for 350. I thought it was a GREAT deal since I had gotten another for 300 for just the engine... It has 70K on it, and I did the swap in about 6 hours. Not my first swap, and I've done an auto to manual swap, so this was easy.

 

I called around today and found a business around called "Japan Motors Direct" which apparently gets engines imported from Japan. They said the engine they have has 40k on it and the install and engine combined is 1200. I bought it and think it's a fair deal. The only weird part is that I wanted the SOHC VTEC engine and he said that was it and it had 119 hp. I know the D16 has 125 hp so that made me a little worried. Oh well, this should increase the value of the car by 1200 at least.

 

sounds like you got a jdm d15. It's a sohc vtec. I can't remember the exact engine code... As for installation, if you get an engine lift, costs about 200, and you have a good set of tools, you should be able to do the install yourself. Then, you also know if the timing belt, water pump, etc were replaced.

Honestly, it's really hard to mess it up. As long as you have all the bolts tightened to spec, you're fine. After that, what can go wrong other than parts breaking? And that would happen no matter who puts it in.

 

is that the d15b? i think there was 1.5 sohc vtec in japan and i think thats the code might be wrong. oh by the way i'm new here. i'm usually over at hondavision under the same name.
